Why Emerald Glen Homes?
Why
did we create Emerald Glen Homes?
What separates Emerald Glen Homes from typical community care
facilities?
We’re
concerned about the limitations in housing and care options for
Developmentally Disabled individuals funded solely with State payments.
(And in particular, the more vulnerable aging population.) The good news
is we live in a country that provides a system. However, the money these
facilities receive is simply not enough to support these people in the
housing options and services they deserve. Because Emerald Glen Homes is
a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, we can build upon State payments by continuing to
raise funds and resources to provide a higher quality of life for our
residents.
We strive to provide beautiful new homes
designed for special needs, optimal nutrition and supportive services to
enhance overall enjoyment of life. At Emerald Glen Homes, we’re building
a supportive community where individuals can thrive.
Emerald
Glen
will soon be accepting applications for residency. To express your early
interest and/or receive regular updates of the project, please contact
Laura Boné at (510) 888-9700. Groundbreaking is anticipated by the
beginning of 2008.
Occupancy Eligibility:
Emerald Glen Homes
caters to mature developmentally disabled adults and seniors (generally
over the age of 40). It is anticipated we’ll be providing homes for
level II and III residents. Higher levels of care may be considered in
the future.

Programs and Services:
We want residents to be at home in their new home. Residents are
encouraged to participate to their fullest potential in a number of
activities. From formal planned outings, a casual barbecue, or helping
with odd chores like setting the table or container gardening. We feel
it’s important the residents participate in creating their own home
environments to the extent possible.
Walpert Center and Programs
For
more than 50 years, the Walpert Center, a non-profit organization, has
provided education, vocational training and work opportunities to the
developmentally disabled. In true partnership, many of the Emerald Glen
residents will attend Walpert activities, and many Walpert attendees may
choose to live at Emerald Glen.
We also thank the many prior serving Walpert Board Members and founders,
many of whom are not still with us today. The founders of Emerald Glen
are honored to build upon your land, as well as your life’s work.

Emerald Glen Staff Services Include:
●
24/7 support services custom-tailored to the needs of the resident.
●
Healthy, delicious meals planned by a certified nutritionist.
●
On-site and off-site recreation activities.
●
Household and living skills training.
●
Optional work program, vocational training, day program and
entertainment available at neighboring Walpert Center for the
developmentally disabled.
●
Transportation to outside activities.
Safe,
secure housing is a basic need that we can provide. This is the
foundation, from which they can make a difference, and be a contributing
member of the community.
